THE THIRD MARKING PERIOD HAS STARTED>

We were graphing quadratic functions in vertex form. You had two graphs to do in class. The file can be found in Pupil Path and on Google Docs.

Period 1/2 and 4/5

In addition to the graphing, we also worked on converted vertex form and factored form into standard form.

We had a worksheet that is at Pupil Path and on Google docs.

GOOGLE DOCS -- Add your name for extra credit

I want to see if I can put assignments on line using Google Docs. Here is a Sample Document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bUGH6gOvzDu8za6ILIrvKBCBFgoxzbOsHH-E_Uvo-Ug/edit?usp=sharing Open it up and add your name so that I know you were there. -- Mr. Burke

The Second Marking Period Has Ended

If you had any make-up assignments, they should have been handed in on Wednesday.

A couple of students asked about scanning and emailing work to me. That should have been done by Friday night.

Monday is the absolute last chance to hand in your project. Any other assignments handed in on Monday will not count toward the second marking period grade.

Classwork for Tuesday, November 24

How do we solve quadratic equations by graphing?

All Classes

Today we worked on three problems that will be evaluated as a quiz.

For each problem, you had to

  • Find the axis of symmetry Find the vertex
  • State whether it was a maximum or minimum point
  • Make a table of values, with the vertex in the middle
  • plot the graph.
  • State the roots, if possible.

The three problems were

  1. y = x2 + 2x - 3 = 0
  2. y = -x2 + 4x + 4
  3. y = x2 - 3x - 4

extra credit: y = x2 + 8x + 5

You should know all the formulas needed for this task.

HOMEWORK for Monday, Novermber 23

ALL CLASSES

Correct the mistakes on your test for extra credit. Show ALL WORK, even for the multiple-choice problems and do it on a separate sheet of paper. Do NOT write corrections on the test paper itself.

Corrctions are due by Wednesday.

Classwork for Monday, November 23

Period 1/2 and 4/5

How do we simplify radical expressions when used with the Quadratic Formula?

An extra credit worksheet was given out that was due at the end of the period.

(Some students worked on their projects, which were due today, instead.)

Period 6

How do we find the roots of quadratic expressions by completing the square?

We reviewed the steps to Complete the Square. A worksheet was given out that was due at the end of the period.

Projects are Due Today, Monday, November 23

All classes:

Your Quadratic Functions booklet is due today, Monday, November 23, 2015. It will count as a Special Project, which make up 20% of your grade.

The second marking period ends on Wednesday.
